річ у собі — філос. noumenon (pl. noumena), thing in itself

речі першої необхідності — the necessaries of life

2) matter

річ у тім, що ... — the fact (the matter, the thing) is that ...

в чому річ? — what's the matter?; what's the game?; (коли є (виникають) неприємності, труднощі) what's the trouble?; (у суперечці, сварці) what's the row?

звичайна річ — that's a usual thing; of course, certainly

не в тому річ — that is not the question, that is not the point, it is not the case

це інша річ — it is quite another thing, that is another pair of shoes, that is a horse of another colour

з якої речі? — to what purpose?; why should I (he, we, etc.)?; (розм.) what's the big idea?

до речі — (доцільно) to the purpose, to the point, relevantly, apropos; (своєчасно) opportunely, seasonably; (між іншим) by-the-by, by the way

до речі і не до речі — in and out of season
